Bio

Dr. Chisom Soremekun holds a PhD in Bioinformatics from Makerere University, Uganda, where she investigated the genetic determinants of type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) in African populations. As a DAAD and Commonwealth Scholar, she undertook additional training at the University of Leicester, UK, and Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich, Germany, between 2022 and 2025.

She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Precision Healthcare University Research Institute (PHURI) at Queen Mary University of London. Her research focuses on uncovering the genetic variants associated with T2D, with a strong interest in the clinical translation of genetic discoveries. She aspires to contribute to personalized treatment approaches for T2D tailored specifically to African populations.

Dr. Soremekun was named a Falling Walls Female Science Talent Champion in 2024, recognized among 20 exceptional women in global science leadership. She also received the Integration Excellence Award from the World African Researchers, Engineers, Entrepreneurs & Scientists Alliance in 2025, both in Berlin, Germany. Beyond research, She enjoys baking and traveling.
