Bio
George Kazibwe is a PhD student in Bioinformatics at Makerere University, Uganda, with training in pharmacy (BPharm) and molecular biology (MSc). His research focuses on the genetic architecture of kidney function in African populations, with emphasis on post-GWAS interpretation, fine-mapping, and therapeutic target discovery. Currently, he is working on multi-trait genetic analysis of kidney function biomarkers to identify causal variants, effector genes, and druggable targets for chronic kidney disease in African-ancestry populations. His unique background in pharmacy and genomics enables him to bridge variant discovery with therapeutic druggability and repurposing potential. Through this work, George aims to ensure that African genomic data and insights translate into treatments accessible to African populations, advancing equitable precision medicine.
